A joint assessment team spent the week walking riverbanks, culverts, and low-lying roads where the Muskegon River left its mark.

Officials catalogued washed-out approaches, debris snags that could worsen the next rise, and homes still drying out. Residents along the corridor reported water higher than many had seen in years.
